Saudi company to invest in Sudan agriculture

The executive director of the Saudi agricultural company, Iktifaa, Mohamed Bin Saeed al-Atiya, has announced that his company will establish agricultural and animal projects in Sudan’s state of Sennar and the Northern state to produce grain and cattle feed.Al-Atiya stressed in statements on Thursday following meetings with officials in Khartoum, Sennar, and Northern states that his company would grow wheat, corn, and oilseeds such as sunflower and peanuts as well as investing in cattle fattening projects.

Informa ups corn, soybean estimates

Informa Economics, a private forecaster, projected that the 2013 U.S. corn crop totaled a record 14.2 billion bushels, higher than federal forecasters' most recent estimate, traders said Friday.


Informa forecast a crop 173 million bushels larger than the U.S. Department of Agriculture estimated in November. The company projected the U.S. corn yield at 161.6 bushels per acre, up 1.2 bushels from the USDA's forecast, citing higher expected yields in Ohio and North Dakota.

Informa pegged U.S. soybean production for 2013 at 3.33 billion bushels, which is 71 million over the USDA's estimate, traders said.

Assam lines up 32 mini mills to process bumper rice yield

GUWAHATI: With Assam expecting a bumper production of rice this year, the state government will soon set up around 32 mini rice mills for processing the harvest. Assam's rice production is expected to touch 60 lakh tonnes, almost 8 lakh tonnes more than the last year's. 


The rice mills will come up in different areas with the state government subverting the cost up to 50 per cent. Assam Agriculture Minister Nilamoni Sen Deka said in fiscal year 2012-13 , the state produced over 52 lakh tonnes of rice and around 7 lakh tonnes were surplus.
