Prices of Poultry Feed in India Remain Unchanged

INDIA - With the cost of production being steady, prices of poultry feed products remained unchanged this week.


Commodity expert Aditya Mishra told The Hindu Business Line that sluggish demand and steady input costs kept feed products unchanged and may continue to rule around current levels for the next few days.


Key ingredients of poultry feed have been ruling in a tight range, he said.


In the physical market, soyameal dropped marginally by Rs.300 and sold at Rs.38,000 a tonne, while bajra went up by Rs.200 and sold at Rs.13,500 a quintal.


Di-calcium phosphate dropped by Rs.2 and was at Rs.34.80 a kg while maize dropped by Rs.20 and sold at Rs.1,460 a quintal. DRB improved by Rs.150 and sold for Rs.8,750, rice bran oil ruled flat at Rs.55/kg, MBM was at Rs.42 while mustard de-oiled cake was at Rs.15,300 a tonne.

Chinese Prawn/Shrimp Farm to Fill Supply Gap and Create Over 100,000 Jobs

ANALYSIS - Sino Agro Foods has announced that its planned prawn farm complex will culture shrimp and prawns from hatchery to grow-out and packing all on its giant complex. With production expected to start in the second quarter of 2015, the farm will sell initially to the Chinese market and then for export, writes Lucy Towers, TheFishSite Editor.


The vast farming complex in in Nanlang Town, Zhongshan City, Guangdong Province, will be home to Mexican Whites (Penaeus Vannamei) and LawZi prawns (Macrobrachium Rosenbergli) at a 50:50 ratio.


A spokesperson for the company stated that they expect to sell shrimp at RMB 60,000 per metric ton, and prawns at RMB 80,000 per metric ton.

Cooke to Take Over Marine Harvest Salmon Operations in Shetland, Orkney

GLOBAL - Marine Harvest is to sell its integrated salmon farming operations, Meridian Salmon Farms Limited, in the Shetland and Orkney Islands, Scotland, to the Canadian fish farming company Cooke Aquaculture Inc.


The operations have a combined harvest volume of 17.4 thousand GWT estimated for 2014. The agreed Enterprise Value (EV) is £122.5 million, which corresponds to an EV/kg of approximately NOK 70. Closing of the transaction is expected in the second quarter.


The divestment is a consequence of the remedies set forth by the EU Commission for the approval of the Morpol transaction in September 2013. The EU Commission required Marine Harvest to divest farming capacity on the Shetland and Orkney Islands. The agreement is conditional on the EU Commission approving that the purchaser and the transaction as well as the sales terms satisfy these remedies.

Credit to services sector rises 17.1% in Feb: RBI

Credit to agriculture and allied activities increased by 13.1 per cent in February 2014


On a year-on-year (y-o-y) basis, non-food bank credit increased by 14.7 per cent in  February 2014 as compared with the increase of 15.4 per cent in February 2013, RBI said today.


Credit to agriculture and allied activities increased by 13.1 per cent in February 2014 as compared with the increase of 15.9 per cent in February 2013.


Credit to industry increased by 13.2 per cent in February 2014 as compared with the increase of 17.4 per cent in February 2013. Deceleration in credit growth was observed in mining and quarrying, beverages and tobacco, textiles, wood and wood products petroleum and coal products, chemical and chemical products, cement and cement products, basic metals, vehicles, gems and jewellery and  infrastructure.

Seafood Company Suffers as Political Tension in Ukraine Continues

UKRAINE - The current political tension in Ukraine is causing problems for on of Europe's leading crab stick and surimi producers, Viciunai Group.


"It is very difficult for our business to hold out in Ukraine. Naturally, purchases of Viciunai products have dropped as local residents started buying canned food expecting even worse times ahead. Although, hopes are also alive that the situation will normalise sooner or later," said Visvaldas Matijosaitis, Head of Viciunai Group, speaking to ELTA news agency.


"We are aware that our losses are going to be high here but we shall continue to meet our commitments. After all there are agreements with networks – we must supply goods. When purchases fall and the exchange rate deteriorates you cannot avoid losses and start raising product prices disregarding agreements. The agreements stipulate that we have to inform traders about price increase in advance and must negotiate with them on that," he continued.

Russia: Illegal antibiotic use in layer feed

Compound feed for layers is regularly been found to contain therapeutic doses of antibiotics even though the use of antibiotics in feed for laying hens is prohibited in Russian law.


"We are detecting illegal antibiotics in feed or even too high levels of legal antibiotics on a regular basis. For instance, from some producers in the Primorsky Territory we received feed that contained such levels of antibiotics, which were equal to therapeutic doses. Moreover, in compound feed for laying hens we regularly found therapeutic doses of antibiotics, when in fact the use of antibiotics in feed for laying hens is prohibited by Russian law," said Elena Titova from the department of safety of feed and feed additives of the All-Russian State Centre for Quality and Standardisation of Animal Drugs and Feed.
