Crash in red gram price triggers demand for State intervention

It is the same old story for red gram growers. The price of red gram has crashed below the minimum support price (MSP) of Rs. 4,300 a quintal, fixed by the Union government, at the beginning of the season itself.

The price of red gram at the Agricultural Produce Marketing Committee (APMC) yard here on Friday was Rs. 3,897 a quintal.

According to market sources, the price started crashing from December 16 when it was quoted at Rs. 4,261 a quintal. Sources said the price would crash further as freshly harvested red gram was arriving in large quantities in market.

Egg Prices Drop in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar on Arrivals from South

INDIA - After witnessing a good uptrend in the last few days, broiler and egg witnessed some correction while poultry feed products continued to rule flat, on Wednesday.

Trade expert Aditya Mishra told The Hindu Business Line that fresh arrivals in the markets of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar from South is putting some pressure on egg while there is no particular reason behind the marginal fall in broiler. Traders expect that market may witness some good buying in the coming days and the prices of poultry products may improve, said market experts.

Poultry feed prices remained unchanged on steady input cost.

US main importer of Chile’s chicken for more details

The United States has become Chile’s main importer of chicken meat followed Mexico, China and the European Union.

According to the Chilean Poultry Producers Association (APA, acronym in Spanish), between January and August 2013 exports of chicken meat and their cuts to the United States showed an increase of 38% in value and 29% in volume over the same period last year.
Currently, this market represents 27% of Chile's total chicken exports (source: Chilean Customs Authority/Agency). This is in part due to shipping products with higher added value, in many cases aimed directly at retail and secondly by the economic crisis in the EU.

NEW DELHI: Around 150 km from Lucknow, progressive farmer Atul Singh recently invested in a 5 hp 'Shashwat Green' brand solar pump costing Rs 4.25 lakh for irrigation of his banana crop spread across 5-6 acres."We expect to recover the cost of investment in a year's time," said Singh who was purchasing over 10,000-12,000 litre of diesel annually."Solar powered irrigation system is a strong answer to prevailing energy insecurity and erratic power supply in the farm sector that needs to improve its productivity to beat the inflation," said Shashwat Green Fuels & Technologies business development head Karan Dangayach. Primarily manufacturing solar water pumps, Dangayach said that these pumps have a life of 25 years and are also useful for drip irrigation.

Industries should help agricultural sector

PUNE: Indian industries should show greater enthusiasm in agri businesses and be more active to market the country's farm produce, said additional chief secretary for agriculture and marketing Sudhir Kumar Goel on Saturday.

"The country has left the agriculture sector out in the cold for a long time now. The industries should now help farmers make their products available to the consumers in a better way," he said.
