AHMEDABAD: Farmers in arid parts of Gujarat are using straw to harvest stormwater through an indigenous method called Bhungroo technology that involves a good deal of women's participation. Bhungroo has irrigated 2.2 lakh hectares in seven districts of the state, a report by Gujarat Ecology Commission says.
The technique developed by Biplab Paul, promoter of Naireeta Service Pvt Ltd, supplies abundant water in the dry months and also lessens the salt content in the soil.
