Polls not to derail Rs 1K cr for green fund during FY15 to eastern states’ paddy programme

KOLKATA: The UPA government has indicated that the seven eastern India states will continue with the BGREI (Bringing Green Revolution to Eastern India) programme in FY15 even though the country has gone into poll mode. This has brought much relief to the eastern Indian states that have witnessed a significant increase in rice production over the past three years since the programme was introduced. Talking to ET, Trilochan Mohapatra, director, Central Rice Research Institute, said: "We have received information from the ministry of agriculture and cooperation that the states should continue with the BGREI programme." Mohapatra, who is the nodal officer of BGREI, said that the government has allocated Rs 1,000 crore for FY15 for continuing the programme.
