NASHIK: The wholesale onion markets across Nashik district, which were closed for a week for onion traders to complete their accounts for the fiscal year 2013-14, finally reopened on Thursday, and the average wholesale onion prices at the Lasalgaon APMC declined marginally. According to market sources, the crop arrival was good after the market reopened after a week at the Lasalgaon APMC; but only half of the crop that arrived in the market was of good quality as the rest of it had been damaged due to unseasonal rains and hailstorms that hit the district last month. Only onions with good quality are only getting good prices, thereby causing a decline in the average prices at the APMCs on Thursday. In the district APMCs, the average wholesale onion prices were recorded in the range of Rs 751 to Rs 825 a quintal on Thursday, against the range of Rs 751 to Rs 850 a quintal on March 27. In the retail market across city, good quality onions were sold at Rs 15 a kg.
